Antonio Gravina, born in Naples in 1934, studied at the Art Institute in
that city. He started painting when only 15 years old, and since
then has continually sought the best, with remarkable results: the
settings, the chromatic range, make his works a valued item to
connoisseurs the world over. Gravina's great fantasy cannot be
denied, given the great variety of his subjects, to which he gives a
very special immediacy. Who wouldn't be drawn to admire his
seascapes? Quiet bays bathed in sunlight, the fishermen carefully
mending their nets, the transparent emerald sea reflecting the clear
sky; or his paintings of stormy seas, portrayed with vivid,
essential, sharp strokes, those heavy, grey clouds warning of an
imminent storm. Also unforgettable are his restful springtime parks,
and his characteristically colorful Parisian bistro customers,
discussing the day's events together. His sunny cottage scenes
cannot be overlooked, with their warm, soft colors reminders of the
quiet, detached life of country folk. Gravina's paintings
bring to mind the masterpieces by the great eighteenth century
artists. He is a great painter, a true and serious
professional who has dedicated himself to painting which for him is
life and love, and this complete dedication is rewarded by the huge
response from both the critics and the public. He has taken part in
many national and international exhibitions.
