Carlos Hernandez was born in Bogota, Columbia in 1971, not far from his first source of artistic inspiration, the Caribbean island of Montserrat. This island, having rugged terrain and an environment of unspoiled beauty, is where Hernandez first began painting the colorful water scenes for which he is now so well known. Indeed coasts and canals are Hernandez's signature subject matter. He most enjoys painting the dense flora and coastal regions of his native South America, but is perhaps better known for his paintings of the Italian coastline and the Grand Canal, Venice. All of these scenes he paints vibrantly, applying bright colors and thick texture to his canvases. With every painting, Hernandez invites the viewer to travel with him into his vividly captured scenes.
