Dima Gorban began painting early, at the age of seven years old. He
immediately adored everything related to art, especially since his
brother, Michael, five years his senior, has also been a painter for
as far back as Dima can remember. This only fanned the flames of his
enthusiasm. Dima was born in the former Soviet Union in 1961,
and moved to Kishnev with his family when he was three. He started
art studies at age ten at the Kishnev School of Art. Dima received
an award for being the most promising young artist. In 1980, Dima
completed his studies at the Higher School for the Painting Arts in
Kishnev. His paintings have been in exhibitions throughout Moldovia
and Moscow, including a permanent exhibit in the Moscow Film
Academy. Dima finished his formal studies in 1989 at the Lvov
Academy for Painting. Dima Gorban's exposure to the world of
wine was launched when he was still a child. His grandfather grew
grapes in the spacious yard of their Kishnev home and made wine for
home use. A culture of wine was instilled in the entire family. Dima
loved helping his grandfather in all the tasks involved.
Having worked with wine as a child and being a talented graphic
designer as an adult were a great asset for Dima when he was asked
to design the Ackerman Winery in Russia. This assignment is what
launched the successful ongoing series of wine paintings, and today
Dima Gorban is considered one of the top three wine painters in the
world.
