Guendalina Monti was born on January 28th, 1954 in Mondovi, wine country.
Her family was full of artists; her grandmother was a painter, and
her great uncle was a stagecraft artist at the beginning of the 20th
century when Turin was the capital of Italian cinema. Guendalina
started to paint when she was 10 years old, making pastel portraits
of her family, and soon after of members of her village. In high
school she trained in painting rural landscapes following her
country girl instinct. Guendalina then attended a college for
architecture, then proceeded to study under the famous Italian
artist Fabiano Cassini for five years. Guendalina continues to live
in the countryside, close to the Alps, in a village of 250 people.
She is a lover of nature and life in the country. She grows her own
vegetables and cultivates fruit trees with her husband. She
poetically interprets the colors of nature and the emotions of the
people she meets. She believes strongly that nature is sacred and
must be preserved. Style wise, Guendalina is inspired by the
original Italian impressionists. Her landscapes typically focus on
the foggy lands of the North and the sun drenched lands of the
South.
