Theresa Brutcher was born in Phoenix, Arizona July 8, 1955. She graduated
with a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of California, Davis
in 1977. She continued her studies from 1977 to 1979 at the
University of Fine Arts, San Fernando in Madrid. She has been a
resident of Spain since 1985.
Personal Statement "Painting for me is a passion, a need, and
a duty. It is my constant companion, sometimes cruel and resentful,
sometimes condescending and other times peaceful and kind. It wards
off those vicious enemies which so frighten me: solitude,
indifference, and collective forgetfulness. I paint my monsters, my
fears, so that I can live with them. In so doing, I take command of
them and control them (or at least temporarily)."
